چکیده

Short duration design rainfall intensity data is a basic input to many water related projects, particularly in urban drainage design. The main problem in deriving short duration design rainfall data is the lack of continuous pluviograph rainfall data. The use of regionalisation techniques is common in design rainfall estimation, which pools data from a large region. This paper presents a regional rainfall estimation method in Australia involving Generalised Least Squares Regression (GLSR) and L moments methods. It has been found that the GLSR and L moments based regional approach is a practical means for estimating short duration design rainfalls and that this provides an efficient statistical framework for assessing uncertainties in design rainfall estimates.

Assessing the relationships between elevation and extreme precipitation with various durations in southern Taiwan using spatial regression models

A spatially autocorrelated effect exists in precipitation of a mountainous basin. This study examines the relationship between maximum annual rainfall and elevation in the Kaoping River Basin of southern Taiwan using spatial regression models (i.e. geographically weighted regression (GWR), simultaneous autoregression (SAR), and conditional autoregression (CAR)). Results show that the GWR, SAR, ...

Co-Active Neuro Fuzzy Inference System for Regional Flood Estimation in Australia

Regional flood frequency analysis (RFFA) involves transfer of flood characteristics from gauged to ungauged catchments. In Australia, RFFA methods generally focus on the application of empirical methods based on linear forms of model such as the Probabilistic Rational Method, the Index Flood Method and the regression-based techniques. There have been successful applications of non-linear models...

Analysis of Recorded Rainfall Information for the Purpose of Huff Curves Extraction in the Dez Dam

Identifying the rainfall characteristics and understanding the rainfall-related processes is one of the key factors in the scientific management of water resources. Selection of the design storm is the first step in the estimation of the design flood. Determining temporal rainfall patterns is very important as one of the design rainfall properties in flood estimation and the design of drainage ...

Derivation of Design Rainfall Temporal Patterns in Australia's Gold Coast Region

Design of water infrastructures requires estimation of design flow which is the runoff that an infrastructure can handle safely. For estimation of this design flow, rainfallrunoff modelling is widely adopted. Temporal pattern (the distribution of rainfall depths over sub-storm durations) is considered to be one of the most critical input variables in the rainfall-runoff modelling. Design tempor...

Robust high-dimensional semiparametric regression using optimized differencing method applied to the vitamin B2 production data

Background and purpose: By evolving science, knowledge, and technology, we deal with high-dimensional data in which the number of predictors may considerably exceed the sample size. The main problems with high-dimensional data are the estimation of the coefficients and interpretation. For high-dimension problems, classical methods are not reliable because of a large number of predictor variable...
